Max Sherman has served as Texas State Senator, President of West Texas State University, Dean of the Lyndon B Johnson School of Public Affairs, President of the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs, Vice President of the Harry S Truman Scholarship Foundation, as well as on numerous boards, including the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, PCUSA Committee on Theological Education, and Federation of State of Humanities Councils. He published a book of several of the major political speeches of Barbara Jordan, his friend and colleague, entitled Barbara Jordan: Speaking the Truth with Eloquent Thunder (UT Press, 2010).
