As reported by NME, a judge has placed renowned Beach Boys singer-songwriter Brian Wilson under conservatorship due to a serious neurocognitive disorder.

Wilson had already been diagnosed with dementia before the formal conservatorship request, which was filed in February 2024 by business manager LeeAnn Hard and publicist Jean Sievers. At the time, they stated that the 81-year-old artist was no longer able to care for himself.

Judge Gus T. May of the Los Angeles Superior Court granted the petition of the two executives, backed by Wilson’s family and close friends, after reviewing substantial evidence indicating the need for conservatorship for the singer. Hard and Sievers will assume responsibility for managing the conservatorship.

The singer’s family issued a statement on the matter, clarifying that this decision was made to ensure family stability and ensure that Brian and the children remain under the care of Gloria Ramos and the household team, who have been instrumental in assisting the family over the years.

Brian will still be able to enjoy the company of his family and friends, as well as continue with his current projects and participate in activities of his choice.

The judge noted that Brian Wilson explicitly agreed to the terms of the conservatorship and acknowledged his inability to make decisions related to his health. Carnie and Wendy, two of his children, will be consulted on medical matters and involved in discussions about their father’s health.

The rationale for the conservatorship is based on Wilson’s major neurocognitive disorders, including dementia, which render him incapable of adequately meeting his basic needs for health, nutrition, clothing and housing.

Finally, LeeAnn Hard and Jean Sievers explained that under the conservatorship, they intend to ensure that all of Wilson’s daily needs are met and that he receives the best possible care while remaining in his residence.
